Table runner or wall hanging. A unique Sarakatsani woven piece from 1949. This rare woolen textile, in its natural ecru color, has a smooth texture that evokes admiration for the exquisite weaving artistry of the Sarakatsani women of Thrace. Despite their nomadic lifestyle, they passed down masterpieces of weaving and embroidery, particularly through their traditional garments.<\/p>\n

A decorative element, an embroidered eye in black thread, serves as an apotropaic symbol, used since prehistoric times to ward off evil and invite good fortune.<\/p>\n

A red stitch runs along the fabric, symbolizing life and joy. Meticulously handcrafted by the women of the mountainous region of Xanthi.<\/p>\n
