Table runner or wall hanging. Unique Sarakatsani woven piece from 1949. This rare woolen textile, in its natural ecru color, has a smooth texture that provides a distinctive tactile experience while evoking admiration for the exceptional weaving skills of the Sarakatsani women of Thrace. Despite their nomadic lifestyle, they passed down masterpieces of weaving and embroidery, primarily through their traditional garments.<\/p>\n

The decorative element is an embroidered eye in black thread\u2014an apotropaic symbol used since prehistoric times to ward off evil and attract good fortune. Along the length of the fabric, a red stitch runs, symbolizing life and joy.<\/p>\n
